Order of the New Hyphae
Order of the New Hyphae is an immersive, devised performance that reconstructs ecological thought and posthuman spiritualities through the lens of an apocalyptic fungi cult. Emerging from the questions of what performance offers amidst a climate crisis and how performance reconstructs our relationships to ecological systems, this show is not a practice in recycling but a practice of divinating rot.
Using the form of a cult as a performance container, the performance company of Order of the New Hyphae designed an initiation ritual that occurs in three stages. The first phase occurs outdoors at Renfrew Ravine, the second in Studio D at the Goldcorp Centre, and the third in the audience member’s own home.
Presented at Rumble Theatre’s Tremors Festival, 2023 & SFU School for the Contemporary Arts’ LIVE ACTS VOL. 1 Festival, 2021.
